Paul's 30 Weeks... 30 Half Marathons

30 Weeks... 30 Half Marathons · 28 December 2020
UPDATE – NOVEMBER 2021
As the Pahar Trust Nepal's #30for30 campaign in 2021 nears its end, I've decided to set myself one last running challenge for the year. After successfully completing 30 half marathons in 30 weeks between January and August, I'm going for something a little less taxing – 30 runs across the 30 days of November. It's a chance to give myself a bit of motivation, while continuing to share the work and the stories of the Pahar Trust Nepal, and maybe add a little to the fundraising total as we go...

ORIGINAL INTRO FOR MY HALF MARATHON CHALLENGE
For 2021 I decided to set myself a running challenge to mark the #30for30 campaign of the Pahar Trust Nepal which aims to help 30 schools in Nepal improve their teaching provision and facilities for pre-primary school children aged 1-5 years old.
My name is Paul Scraton and I'm a writer based in Berlin, Germany. Thanks to friends of our family, I've long been aware of the great work the PTN does in Nepal for education, health, water and sanitation, and their 30 year anniversary campaign seemed to be a great time to get involved.
Starting on the 5th January I'm aiming to complete one half marathon a week, and will post about the runs, the routes and everything else that happens here and on my Facebook and Instagram feeds. Hopefully some of my friends (pandemic restrictions allowing) will join me on the runs and together we can raise some money for this excellent campaign.
I originally set a target of £200 but we reached that before the first run! So we keep aiming higher as everything we raise is important. Here's an overview of how money collected for the #30for30 campaign can be used:
£20 could provide a bag and educational materials for a student
£100 could repaint a classroom
£500 could provide new resources such as stationery & toys
£1,200 could provide new flooring, a whiteboard & furniture
£3,000 could provide the complete refurbishment of an existing room
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for those who feel able to support the work of the Pahar Trust Nepal, anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE – The Pahar Trust Nepal has kindly offered to match everything we raise here from their funds, so all donations made from the beginning of the runs until the end will effectively be double. It's been amazing to get so much support over the past few months, and to think of the difference we are going to make from a silly challenge dreamed up over Christmas!
