The Albrighton Moat & Gardens is dedicated to providing sports, arts, training and recreational facilities for people of all ages who have disabilities or disadvantaged. It enables and empowers them, regardless of disabilities, to participate in and enjoy activities that they are excluded from.

Story

On 31st March, 2012, 6 middle aged ordinary men, myself included, are taking on one of the world’s toughest adventure challenges, trekking to the arctic North Pole, the last true wildernesses in the World.

Some would call it a mid-life crisis, maybe it is, but I’m doing this to raise as much money as possible for The Albrighton Trust, which provides educational, recreational and leisure facilities for mentally, physically and sensory disabled users.

Each of us has funded the cost of the trip from their own wallets – that’s £25,000 each!

We will ski and haul sledges, facing temperatures as low as -35 degrees, blinding whiteouts and storms, and even polar bears!
We have been training for 14 months – training included: climbing Killmanjaro, London to Paris Bike Ride, Coast to Coast Bike Ride and of course, pulling tyres and sledges on the beach at Burnham on Sea every Sunday morning in cold, windy and wet weather!

Our expedition is led by Alan Chambers MBE, the first British man to walk unsupported to the North Pole and Dr Ed Coats (BBC, On Thin Ice), who joined Ben Fogle and Olympic rower James Cracknell on their epic televised race to the South Pole in 2009.

The whole challenge takes place on the frozen ice on top of the Arctic Ocean and our camp is only set up for one month of the year (April) as this is when we have the very narrow window of opportunity to trek/ski to the Geographic North Pole.
To survive the elements, we will need to consume 6000 calories each per day!

I would like to ask you all to dig deep and help me support my chosen charity, and help me raise as much money as I can to help such a wonderful facility that does so much to help disadvantage people. You can also rest safe in the knowledge that every penny you donate will go to helping improve lifes, rather then being lost in administrative costs, which seems to happen with the bigger charities!

So please dig deep and donate now.
