Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For a long time now I have wanted to run the London Marathon, the original plan was to run the April 2020 London Marathon, however, unfortunately covid prevented this from happening. I then deferred my place to the April 2021 London Marathon, however, this was subsequently moved to October 2021 which clashed with my wedding date at the time, therefore, I again deferred my place to April 2022. Due to covid, we moved our wedding date to October 2022 and of course, the London Marathon was then moved to the day after my wedding in October 2022, which again, resulted in me deferring my place to April 2023. Finalllllly, we are on track and my training has commenced for the London 2023 Marathon and I cannot wait!
In 2018, we sadly lost my Nan, Marion Smith, to Lung Cancer. She was an amazing person who touched the hearts of everyone she met. I think my Nan had a better social life then me, she was constantly out seeing family and friends and even when she did have spare time she would be volunteering to help others. Losing her is the hardest thing I have ever experienced in life but I will always be forever grateful for the opportunity I had to spend time with her and create the many happy memories that we did.
Witnessing first hand what Lung Cancer can do to somebody, made me want to do something to help others who are battling this same awful illness and to help raise money to fund further research. I therefore started to research charities who specifically raise funds for Lung Cancer and I came across Roy Castle Lung Cancer foundation. The work they do is excellent and they are the only UK Lung Cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by Lung Cancer.
Roy Castle have 70 runners take part in the marathon and I am so pleased to be given the opportunity to represent them. Given the turmoil of the previous deferments, I am even excited for the cold, wet, dark runs in preparation for this amazing event.
Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated by both myself and the team at Roy Castle Lung Cancer foundation. Your support will help me get through this tough challenge and I can’t wait to cross that finish line in memory of such a special person.
Thank you again! Xx
