Taberner House Abseil · 6 December 2013

Since opening our doors in 1976, Gingerbread Corner has been more than just a childcare setting—it has been a place where children feel safe, valued, and supported to grow. Generations of families have come through our doors, creating a strong sense of community, trust, and belonging that continues today. We provide high-quality childcare and early years education in a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to learn through play, build confidence, and develop at their own pace. Our setting is designed to inspire curiosity and imagination, helping children build the foundations they need for life. As a charity, we are committed to supporting families and ensuring our services remain accessible to those who need them most. For many, we are more than childcare—we are a vital source of stability, care, and reassurance. Your support can make a real difference. Every donation helps us continue providing a safe, enriching environment and ensures that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Story

Please sponsor me to abseil down Taberner House in Croydon. Taberner House has 21 floors and is 77m high or 252 feet, that's the equivalent of 1.5 times Nelsons Column!

My name is Helen Westwood and I'm an ordinary Mum; too much to do and too little time to do it!

I'm 43, overweight, need a haircut and my roots doing! As for going to the Gym, I went to Virgin Active but didn't qualify on either count!

However, I am lucky enough to be involved with a wonderful organistion. Gingerbread Corner is a registered, not for profit, charity which provides quality, affordable childcare for all, but with particular support for single parent and vulnerable families.

Gingerbread Corner was first set up in 1976 and now, nearly 40 years later it has grown into a flagship childcare centre but with the families it deals with, and particularly the children, at the heart of everything they do.

I may be an ordinary Mum doing something extraordinary by doing an abseil down a VERY tall building but I am doing it for an extraordinary organisation that does something very special for lots of children (and parents) every day!
