Story
In 1987 I lost my beloved mum Eileen to breast cancer at 62 years of age. Twelve years later my sister Elizabeth lost her battle to the same deadly disease at a young age of 38.
Since then life has pretty much been dictated to by this aweful disease resulting in my two daughters Laura and Aileen both testing positive for the breast cancer gene BRCA1 and then making the courageous decision to both have double mastectomies in a bid to reduce their chance of taking this deadly disease.
After taking a proactive approach to be tested myself I was given the devastating news that I was also a carrier of the gene. In May of this year I had a double mastectomy followed by reconstruction.
My aim is to raise much needed funds for the research team (Breast Cancer) in Queens University, Belfast to stop other families going through the pain and heartache we have endured.
