We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

11 years ago our precious son Callum was born on the 21st may 2002 he was healthy at birth but quite soon after we realised something wasn't right. After a visit from the health visitor he was admitted to hospital in our local town of Canterbury Kent where his health very rapidly went downhill. The initial diagnosis of an infection was quickly ruled out by a top doctor from gosh who happened to be at our hospital he arranged for Callum to be transferred to gosh immediately as he suspected him to have a rare genetic illness called otc defiency. Tests quickly proved this to be case, but despite all the doctors and nurses tireless efforts over two days we were told he wouldn't get better. But thanks 2 the doctors and nurses we had enough time to get most of the family to the hospital in time to have our baby CALLUM baptised and we got to say goodbye to our precious angel.

Since then we have been blessed with 2 girls and a miracle baby boy. The two girls carry the gene for otc defiency and although at 1st it was predicted that it wouldn't affect them, they too suddenly became very unwell and we nearly lost both of them in quick succession but again thanks to the expertise of all at gosh and the evelina childrens hosp they managed to stabalise the girls and after a few weeks they were home. Our princesses will be on alot of medication and a protein restricted diet for life but we have been blessed with still having them here with us. This page has been set up in memory of our shining star callum by his older brother kieron, baby mason and his 2 sisters shannon and kaycee and maybe one day we can raise enough money for a cure so our girls and every sufferer of a urea cycle disorder could maybe one day lead a normal life and so nobody has to go through the pain and heartache that we did as parents. Please give generously and pass on to all your friends and family. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
