I am a veteran myself, serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps for almost exactly 23 years from 1977-2000.
In April 1982, I deployed to the Falkland Islands in support of 1/7 Duke of Edinburgh's Gurkha Rifles, seconded from my parent unit which was 16 Field Ambulance RAMC. This year is the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War (where on earth did that time go?). I want to spend this year giving back as much as i can to all military veterans and want to do this through RBLI.
I will try to find a different challenge every month which is not easy as i am still on the front line fighting for my country at the age of 67 as Director of Public Health and Director of Adult Social Services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council - this time the enemy is Covid.
RBLI helps veterans overcome challenges such as physical or mental disability, PTSD, substance dependency, homelessness, health issues and unemployment. Younger veterans are especially at a high risk of suicide in the first two years after leaving service.
Our veterans need us now more than ever, as the last few years have been a really difficult time and we cannot forget those who served so bravely for us.
Right now for every person RBLI can help, there’s at least one they can’t. That’s why they need people like you; with more funding, they can grow their village, support more people who need them & help them to find their purpose again.
They enable the people they support to take the difficult steps towards independence through housing, Step In, skills training, their leading employability course LifeWorks & in both of their Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Companies.
Please help me to support them in January with this first challenge for £250 - if I can do that every month that will be £3,000 this year. So please don't overreach yourself in January as i will be back for more support in February - and March and - you get the picture.
I also have a Facebook page so a few people may contribute there and i will try to reflect that on here as we go.
In Arduis Fidelis!
