Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Cancer Research UK.

Two years ago, I had my prostrate removed due to prostate cancer, so I am competing in the Outlaw Triathlon on 25 July 2021 in support of Cancer Research UK, and to encourage anyone with prostate cancer to be positive about their future. This will be my first full ironman distance triathlon, and will include a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, and 42.2km marathon run. I will be competing in the 70-74 age group, and aiming to complete the 226km in about 16 hours. I have already started my nine-month training programme, under the expert guidance of my coach, Sam Mountain.

Beginning with sprint triathlons seven years ago, and gradually going longer through Olympic distance and middle distance triathlons, I have managed to complete all 12 of my races so far.  I therefore have every intention of completing this race too, but I know that a lot can go wrong in long distance triathlons.  Anything from cramp, gastro-intestinal problems, or dehydration, to crashes or mechanical problems with the bike, could force me to pull out of the race.  And athletes are required to complete their swim, bike and run within predetermined cut-off times to avoid disqualification. Yet no matter how far I manage to complete, your generosity will still benefit Cancer Research UK.  I have already paid my own registration fee and accommodation costs, so, apart from Just Giving's small administration fees, 100% of all contributions will go to straight to Cancer Research UK.

Thank you for your help in achieving my target of raising £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
