SARA is the largest multi-disciplinary search and rescue organisation in the UK. It operates inshore lifeboats on the tidal Severn, Wye and Usk, and provides inland water and land search & rescue throughout the Severn Area, 24x7x365 with over 150 qualified all-volunteer crew from 6 Stations.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This October I will be hiking along the Atlantic coast from Padstow to Lands End a total of 78 mile in 3 days, (the equivalent of 3 marathons in 3 days). I'm hoping to raise much needed funds for Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).

SARA was set up in 1973 so has over 40 years experience in search and rescue, we are deployed by the Police, Fire & Ambulance service & the Coast guard.

All SARA members, myself included are volunteers and SARA is totally reliant on charity donations to keep the organisation running, which is why any donation you can give means so much to SARA & those who we assist.

SARA are often deployed to search for missing people & provide land search & mountain rescue and are a proud member of Mountain Rescue England & Wales. Many of the SARA team are trained to the standard of MREW Casualty Care, an advanced first aid qualification which enables them to assess, treat & give required drugs to casualties, & we also train with the search & rescue helicopters enabling us to give the best possible care to any casualty.

SARA also tasked by the UK Coastguard & provide lifeboats and river rescue, covering the Severn Estuary & the tidal lengths of the rivers Wye & Usk.  SARA also operate inland rescue boats, supporting the police & other agencies.

SARA also work along side DEFRA providing flood support & swift water rescue.

No member of SARA  is paid, but the upkeep of vehicles & boats, training of volunteers, providing appropriate PPE for volunteers, insurance & replacing used or worn out kit cost several thousands per year. All our funds come from charity donations as we receive no other funding, please give whatever you can  to help us keep this valuable service running to SARA every penny counts.

Many thanks

Pauline, operational member of SARA Wyre Forest Branch
