Story
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. This last year in lockdown has been a particularly difficult time, as cancer has revisited my family .... again .... 40 years on
At Macmillan, we give people with cancer everything we’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are our worries. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
Why Swimming to Sweden - 800 miles Bridge to Bridge?
Swimming forms early memories, and memories of early mornings, with my father before he was first diagnosed with cancer over 40 years ago. There have been years of remission and joy, more cancer treatment, further respite, and once again we find that cancer is in our midst.
This is a virtual challenge, inspired by lockdown, which has caused it’s own complications. As my last major event was to be held in Malmo, and there is no telling where or when all of this will end, that is my virtual destination. At this point, swimming somewhere safe or remotely warm (still looking for local lidos) has become a more realistic prospect than in the last few months. The virtual journey may take some time to complete, so I will post progress.
The route begins at Grade 2* listed Elvington Bridge, passes along the River Derwent to the Ouse and the Humber, where it passes under the M62 bridge and the Humber Bridge before joining the North Sea at Spurn Head. From there the route crosses to Helsingborg, then goes to Malmo and finishes at the local bridge
