Week 4 complete and the hardest event so far... 500ft of climb and on paths you'd normally have your hiking boots on for. Really hard work this week...

Week 2 done and both recovering from a great "Great North Run"! Rich did 1:45 and I did 2:01. Richard's fell running shoes have just arrived in the post. He needs to scuff them up so he doesn't look like a complete novice on Saturday at his first ever fell race!

I always like to set myself a challenge - this year a number of events are in quick succession so Richard and I thought we'd fill in the remaining weekends and devote our time to doing some new challenges as well as some of the regulars...

The run-down of events are as follows:

Week 1 - Wetherby 10k (the warm up run!)

Week 2 - Bupa Great North Run - it's 10 years since I did my first!

Week 3 - Ilkley Triathlon (500M swim / 20K bike / 5k run)

Week 4 - Harewood 10 mile Trail Run (and Harewood is hilly!)

Week 5 - Survival of the Fittest - Nottingham

Week 6 - British Millitary Fitness Major Series - Bramham

The last two weeks will involve swampy rivers, cargo nets and climbing walls so I'm saving my old running gear for that! I intend to laugh my way round - otherwise there could be tears!

The reason why I've chosen this charity is that it sits firmly in my values in terms of work and leisure. I believe that some of the issues we have in society nowadays in terms of health, wellbeing, education and social deprivation are because people have not got access to great sporting facilities, nor have the courage and confidence that comes with personal and physical development. Leadership in life and work and sport go hand in hand so the more I can do to encourage it the better. The charity also provides support for all those people who give up their free time to set up local clubs and activities - the real backbone of a community.
