Story
In 2017, the forcibly displaced population increased by 2.9m, to 68.5m people worldwide. This is a record high.
Displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, generalized violence or natural disaster, the number of new displacements was equivalent to an average of 44,400 individuals being forced to to flee their homes every day. That's one person, every two seconds.
Children account for just over half of all refugees (52%). The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) conservatively estimates nearly 200,000 of these children are unaccompanied or separated from their families.
The UNHCR exists to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, with the option to eventually return home, integrate or resettle.
No one chooses to become a refugee. If conflict threatened your family, what would you do? Stay and risk your lives? Or try to flee, undertaking perilous journeys, risking exploitation, abuse and harassment?
But if you’re reading this, you can make a choice. To help. To support the UNHCR. I’ve chosen, will you?
These are just some of the basics your donations help to pay for:
- $50 provides blankets for 5 displaced families.
- $100 provides kitchen sets for 5 displaced families.
- $450 provides a tent to shelter 1 displaced family.
