Story
I made it, cycling 1003 miles in 14 days arriving in John O Groats on 5th August.
The whole trip ran pretty smoothly with great weather, maybe a little too hot for cycling at times. As I expected, the first few days proved pretty tough with a lot of uphill cycling and some long days. It was great to receive so many motivating texts and these were very welcome after a few 10 hour days on the road. I only really encountered 1 really wet day as I headed towards the Lake District and after this the weather was kind to me all the way through Scotland.
My bike had no mechanical problems apart from 1 puncture and my body survived the experience with just a few aches.
During my trip I saw some fantastic scenery, met some lovely people and was surprised by the generosity of people, even strangers who sponsored me along the way. I have raised far more than I expected and I would like to thank you all so much for your donations support and encouragement.
Best wishes Pauline
On Monday 23rd July 2012 I will set off on my solo cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. If all goes to plan and my legs keep going, I hope to complete the 1000 miles in about 2 weeks. I am cycling in memory of Tom McClintock, who died suddenly in April 2011 at the age of 3. He loved the great outdoors and spending time on his bike and was full of joy. I, together with so many of his family and friends still find it hard to believe that he is no longer with us.
With the Olympics and Paralympics about to begin, and my great belief in the value of sport, I am raising sponsorship for the charity "Get Kids Going " who, through specialist equipment and grants, help disabled children take part in sport.
If you would like to make a donation it will be very much appreciated.
Thank you for your support. Pauline
