Story
Hero Paws provides military dogs and service dogs with a
happy retirement through rehabilitation and retraining. They are a fairly new, local charity run by three ex military dog handlers who know exactly how to help and turn these dogs around. My son was planning to do the three peaks challenge this year for charity and we looked in to hero paws as a local charity doing great work, after speaking on the phone it struck a chord and we knew it was for them. I'm always up for a challenge and with turning 50 this year its also a great opportunity to prove to myself (and Christian) that I've still got it. It's also a great opportunity to do something as Father and son
for a great cause.
Their ultimate goal is to set up a sanctuary where ex working service dogs can be cared for and trained so they can eventually find
their perfect forever home or they can live out their lives happily without getting euthanized after everything they have done over seas.
Many people are unaware that retired service dogs do not
receive financial support in their retirement from the force they served with, meaning the responsibility for their care and vet bills fall solely to their ex-handler or new owner. Unable to get pet insurance due to their working life, many are left with ongoing vet bills which can amount to thousands. Hero Paws provides much needed financial support to these unsung dog heroes and their owners to enable them to have a long and happy retirement.
We will be doing the challenge at the beginning of September
to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales all in 24 hours, starting at Ben Nevis, then down to Scafell Pike and finishing at Snowdon.
Thank you for taking the time to read and any support is
hugely appreciated by us all.
