PAWS was founded in 2005 to increase veterinary care on Paxos, support winter feeding of the island's cats and provide local education programmes. PAWS arose in response to an appreciatino by its founders and the mayor, of the poort state of animal welfare on this beautiful but remote Greek island that had no regular veterinary facilities but a large population of domestic and feral cats. 

Over the last eight years PAWS is delighted to report it has treated over 2000 animals and neutered around 1500 cats. Regular teams of vets and nurses visit during the year and in 2013 it's hoping to move into permanent premises. This will be a huge step forward for animal welfare on the island, as if enough funds are raised, the team will be able to buy anaesthetic equipment and expand care services to include dogs, which are becoming an increasing problem.
