Deadlift Against Depression

Deadlift Against Depression · 21 December 2020
Update: New date booked in...
May 26th!
Over this last lockdown the challenge has taken on new meaning for me as I have had started taking medication for my mental health. Mental health is just as important as physical health so why do we not talk about it more? This needs to change. I’m trying to be the change I want to see. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to get in touch.

On December 21st I am taking part in Descended From Odin’s Deadlift Against Depression.
Why: It’s estimated that over half a million additional people in the UK alone will require mental health services at a time when access to them is harder than ever. With up to a 24 month wait for NHS services like cognitive behavioural therapy, many are reliant on charities already stretched to their limits. Many in our community have also been negatively impacted by the closure of gyms and suicide remains the largest killer of men under 45.
Fitness has been a big help in dealing with my own mental health issues over the years. The deadlift in particular is something that I’ve really come to enjoy and this challenge appealed to me given the events we’ve all faced this year.
My Challenge: On Dec 21st I will be aiming to lift 200kg raw. No belt, no straps, just some chalk! If I can hit more then that’s a bonus. My training has been all over the place this year but over the next couple of weeks I’ll be trying to get as close as possible before attempting the challenge.
The Ask: I know at this time of year there’s a lot of fundraising and present buying, but I would massively appreciate it if you could spare a pound or two for this cause.
Thank You: I want to also thank Dan and Foxy at Elevate for allowing me to use their space and kit on the 21st to do this! These guys and this facility are something else and Dan especially has been key to my love of training and being able to do this and be here today. Also, thanks to you guys for donating and supporting the charity and the cause.
