International PBC Day 2021

International PBC Day 2021 · 12 September 2021
I wanted to raise funds for the PBC foundation, because I am so very grateful for the work they do and because they have made such a difference to my physical and mental well being.
The Foundation supports those who have a rare autoimmune disease, Primary Biliary Cholangitis, that without treatment, damages the liver and causes symptoms such as fatigue and itching. The Foundation serves members in 65 countries around the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Foundation works alongside liver units and liver specialists to support them in their work to gain better treatments and ultimately to find a cure. The Foundation empowers every member with the knowledge they need to take control of their own own health in order for them to seek and receive the best treatment available.
The money raised will provide much needs funds for this small charity to continue the work they do that has such a big impact on all its members.
I am attempting to complete a 15 mile walk, from Bewdley in Worcestershire to Brignorth in Shropshire, accompanied and supported by my daughter Katie.
I wanted to set a distance that was big enough to be a real challenge for me, in the hope that it might encourage donations! I also wanted to prove to myself that, despite suffering from fatigue, I can still do this!
If you can spare a few pounds I would be very grateful, every pound is really appreciated. I would like to help the PBC Foundation to continue to help PBC sufferers, especially those who are newly diagnosed. I know how reassuring it is to have this support. In addition I would like to think that my efforts, in some small way, will go towards helping to support future research projects.
Thank you to everyone who gives whatever few pounds you can spare,
I’ll let you know how I get on!
Message from Katie
There was no hesitation in my mind when my Mum asked me if I would support her by doing a sponsored walk to raise money for The PBC Foundation. Having seen first hand the impact that this disease can have, I am very grateful to The PBC Foundation for the support they have given to my Mum and others suffering with the disease. Having a sense of community and people to reach out to who are going through the same thing has been invaluable to my Mum.
The symptoms of fatigue have been the hardest for Mum to deal with. As someone who loves to walk, puts others first and is always on the go, it has been a difficult road to come to terms with the fact that she cannot do everything that she used to. She has come such a long way. From finding it difficult to walk the length of our street when she was first diagnosed, to taking on this challenge of walking 15 miles. I am inspired by her determination to live her life to the fullest, and her ability to acknowledge and accept when she needs to take a step back and relax.
I am so proud of you Mum, and will be with you every step of the way.
