In January 2021 we unexpectedly lost a beloved member of our family, Perminder Singh Manku, aged 64. We hope to raise money for Moorfields Eye Charity in memory of Perminder, who was given the gift of sight thanks to the work they do.

Perminder was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes from the age of 8 and this caused his eyesight to suffer greatly. Over the years Perminder underwent several operations on his eyes, some of which were unsuccessful and resulted in a complete loss of sight in his left eye. 

In 2016 Perminder started to lose vision in his right eye too. It was the revolutionary treatments provided by those at Moorfields Eye Hospital which enabled Perminder to recover. Not only did this improve his vision, but his returned independence opened up many more opportunities for us as a family. Thanks to those at Moorfields we finally were able to enjoy our time together knowing Perminder was not in constant physical pain - and best of all, he could see the smiles he put on our faces! We are all so grateful additionally for the extraordinary care given to Perminder by those working at Moorfields Eye Hospital. 

Every 15 minutes, someone in the UK starts to lose their sight. My Eye to Eye is Moorfields Eye Charity's flagship fundraising event where participants walk, run or ride five miles for Moorfields and its academic partner, the Institute of Ophthalmology. Already, over 2 million people across the country live with impaired vision - with that number set to double over the next 30 years. Which makes fundraising events such as My Eye to Eye so important.
