Story
5 girls, 3 peaks, 24 hours for peace!
We are Nasseem (peacock), Rebecca (parrot), Julia (penguin), Sarah (pelican) and Laura (puffin). Not forgetting our brave driver - Nick (phoenix).
We're taking on the Three Peaks challenge, which means climbing Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours...yes 24 hours...all to promote the work of International Alert, who help people find peaceful solutions to conflict.
They have been building peace for nearly 30 years. They work with local people around the world to help them build peace and they advise governments, organisations and companies on how to support peace.
Your donation could go towards helping them address the social, psychological and economic impacts of the Rwandan genocide. Bringing all sides affected, survivors, ex- prisoners and ex-combatants, together and providing them with trauma counselling and microfinance, and also running ‘dialogue clubs’, to help them to move forward, rebuild their lives together and avoid the risk of renewed conflict.
Or it could go towards strengthening the knowledge of women cross-border traders in the Democratic Republic of Congo of their rights, promoting reconciliation between traders of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds, supporting dialogue with border officials and authorities, and raising awareness of the daily struggle these traders face.
Or you could be helping International Alert support indigenous people in the Philippines in their talks with mining companies, so that they too can benefit from the natural resources being sought whilst reducing the risk of conflict over environmental and security issues, and ownership of ancestral lands.
So please dig deep, donate whatever amount you can...you can help make a real difference!
