3 PEAKS & A DINNER PARTY

Not content with holding one fundraising event for charity Llantwit Fardre local Lee Alder Dyke and friends decided to get together to embark on a yearlong  fundraising extravaganza holding at least one event every other week with the aim of raising at least £30,000 for their chosen charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Valley Kids.

Their efforts began in 2012 with a series of car boot sales and to date have included a Christmas Concert complete with Michael Buble tribute act culminating in a glamorous black tie gala evening with the small task of completing the Welsh 3 Peaks the weekend before on Saturday 23 August 2013.

Peak to peaks organiser Lee Alder-Dyke said “This is the first time we have organised such a large and prestigious event for charity and hope lots of people come along and support it.  “They are truly inspirational causes and the money raised at this event will go directly to helping there pioneering lifesaving work.  Macmillan cancer and Valleys kids are a big part of our community and dedicated in the fight for better quality of life for all of us”

The peak to peaks charity ball is being held on Saturday 31 August at the Marriott Hotel, Cardiff.  Tickets for the black tie event cost just £50.00 and the event will include a four course meal, live music from Wales number one Michael Buble tribute act (Richie Evans), Abergavenny accapellar choir “SYNERGY” and Singing sensation “HARMONY” and  more to be announced. Also on the night will be a Charity Auction and Raffle.  As well as supporting the event by attending the organisers at peak to peaks challenge are also appealing for donations from businesses for the charity auction and raffle prizes.  If anyone is available to offer some prizes for the evening auction and raffle it would be highly appreciated.

Debbie Jones Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in RCT said,” More and more our supporters are pushing themselves even further to raise as much money as humanly possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Lee and his friends are aiming to raise enough money to enable us to literally help 100’s of people fighting cancer and their families living locally.  The immense efforts that Lee and his family and friends are putting into all of their events no matter what the size is inspirational.  On behalf of everyone at Macmillan I would like to sincerely thank them for their commitment and support.  We couldn’t continue to provide our vital services in RCT without the help of our supporters like Lee and his fellow Peak to Peak challenge members.”

Denise Lord,  Valleys Kids Development Co-ordinator said ”Valleys Kids is a local charity. We have been working with children and families for over 30 years, offering a wide range of opportunities and support to help them overcome the problems they face. (www.ValleysKids.org) We have changed the lives of thousands of children and adults in the Valleys and we rely on the generosity and support of donors to help sustain our work in very challenging times.  We are very grateful to Lee and his intrepid team for their commitment to our cause.”

Lee added,” There are lots of ways that people can show their support of our fundraising challenges whether that’s by coming along to our charity ball, donating a raffle or auction prize or by visiting our just giving page Lee Alder Dyke.  No donation is too small or large but everything will be used to make a big a difference as possible to each of these worthwhile causes.”

Debbie Jones continued, “All of Macmillan’s services are provided entirely for free.  We couldn’t provide these services without the help of our supporters.  We have a team of 35 Macmillan posts in the local health authority which include nurses, welfare benefits adviser, information and support officers to name a few.  We need the help of our supporters in the local community to keep these services available to the people who need them most.  With the hope that this could mean the difference between a good day and a bad day for someone affected by cancer.”

About Macmillan Cancer Support

More than one in three of us will get cancer. For most of us it will be the toughest fight we ever face. And the feelings of isolation and loneliness that so many people experience make it even harder.

But you don’t have to go through it alone. The Macmillan team is with you every step of the way.

We are the nurses and therapists helping you through treatment. The experts on the end of the phone. The advisers telling you which benefits you’re entitled to. The volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things. The campaigners improving cancer care. The community there for you online, any time. The supporters who make it all possible.

Together, we are all Macmillan Cancer Support.
