Story

*** This page is now also being used to collect money raised by the 'PLTC Penarth Sports Clubs Golf Challenge' ***

During the next few months team #pedallingforpete will be training for the Carten100 cycle event, in memory of dad, uncle and brother-in-law, Pete Jones. The Carten is an annual 100-mile cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby which is completed in a single day - www.carten100.com. This years event will take place on Saturday 7th May.

Team members, so far, include daughter Nic Jones, nephews Dave Sadler, Mark Sadler (Bubsy) and Matt Runnalls, and brother-in-law Nigel Runnalls. Along with daughter Cath Jones who will be the all-important support driver and chef. A few friends will also be joining the team.

We sadly lost Pete in October after a courageous and extremely admirable battle with Cancer, which lasted over 7 years. Pete was always a keen cyclist, regularly cycling socially with a local group, enjoying cycling holidays in Italy with wife Jan and in younger years completing challenges such as the Polaris.

Even during his 7 years of difficult Cancer treatment, Pete completed two Carten 100 mile events, several overseas group cycling trips and a solo, week long trip, cycling around Wales and England, with friends from different locations, joining him for sections of the ride.

Pete completed the Carten100 with daughters Nic & Cath, not long after finishing his first ever round of chemo - a special moment for all.

So, to honour Pete's lust for life and determination, we will train regularly over the next few months and complete the ride on Saturday 7th May. We hope to raise a substantial amount for Velindre to help others receive the incredible treatment that he received.

Pete will be in our hearts whilst we ride and his determination will spur us on, we look forward to raising a toast (or several) to him at the finish line in Tenby.
