Story
19th December 2021 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster, a night that is remembered by so many for the bravery, commitment & in the end the ultimate sacrifice of 8 dedicated volunteers who put to sea in the RNLB Solomon Browne placing others before themselves in their selfless efforts to rescue the crew of the Union Star.
Like the memories of those 8 brave men, the efforts of the RNLI & the Penlee Station continue to live on. The men & women who dedicate their time & lives in the pursuit of putting "others first" & "saving everyone" goes on 24/7 365 - rain or shine, clam or storm, when the pagers go off, they go to work.
To honour those who lost their lives back in 1981 & to help support the ongoing dedication of today's Penlee Lifeboat Crew, myself & a small group of friends want to raise funds by challenging ourselves to cover a distance of 6,541 miles, that's from the Old Penlee Boathouse to the Statue of Liberty & back to the New Boathouse in Newlyn. We are looking to cover the distance by walking, running, cycling, swimming or even crawling between 19th February and 19th November 2021.
We hope that you will be able to donate to this amazing charity to support their work and also to encourage us to keep going as we count down the miles. We will be recording our distances & achievements on My Virtual Mission and sharing updates as we progress. Thank you so much for your generosity & support, it means so much to us & also the members of the RNLI.
