The Baobab Centre works with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people in the UK. It provides a long-term service focused on therapy and practical support for the young people who have experienced unimaginable violence and lost family. With help, their shattered lives can be rebuilt.

Story

Thank you for visiting this page which we have set up for donations to mark our marriage on 2 October 2010.

Our friend Jill Pack, who works closely with the organisation we have chosen, writes:

The Baobab Centre for Young Survivors in Exile is a therapeutic centre solely focused on the needs of some of the4,000 children and young people arrive unaccompanied in the UK each year to seek asylum. Many are fleeing violence, having experienced unimaginably painful events; most have lost parents and extended family through appalling acts of brutality.  These experiences and losses create long-lasting trauma. The Baobab Centre works with these young people to provide a long-term, specialised service, focused on therapy and practical support.  With help, their shattered lives can be rebuilt.

We have chosen this charity because it does essential work which will be more and more difficult to fund publicly in the future. It is for all our children and grandchildren who, through accident of country of birth, will never have experiences like those of the charity's clients.

With many thanks.
