Story
As you may or may not be aware, PMG discord regular, and all around lovely person spoon was recently helped out by SpecialEffect, an incredible charity who help people with physical disabilities to gain access to the adaptive technology they need in order to play games. In his own words,
"Gaming is important to me because it gives me escapism and a feeling of freedom and agency that I don't get in my normal life. My visit to Special Effect have allowed me to continue to do that much more easily, I just wish I had gone sooner.
They spent a lot of time finding the best solutions based on their considerable experience helping people like me. The new controller has reduced the effort and frustration that had made me almost give up.
I'll be able to play with my friend whereas it had got to the point where he was playing and I could only watch."
SpecialEffect give expert advice on setting up the controllers and loan out equipment so anyone they help can be certain they’ve got the best possible setup for their needs.
As you can imagine, this sort of hardware and expertise is not cheap, or easy to come by. Despite this, SpecialEffect charges absolutely nothing for the services they provide, relying entirely on donations.
The People Make Games community has consistently been one of the friendliest, most supportive and all around excellent communities I've met online, and this is an opportunity for all of us to show that, and to do something that will have a real benefit.
Given that one of our number has recently benefited so much, I’d like us to do something good for the gaming community as a whole, by raising funds to enable more people to enjoy games.
