Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

About 885,000 people are living with a form of dementia in the UK. Nearly 70% of those living in care homes have dementia - this is a growing challenge with prevalence set to increase by 80% in the next 20 years.

Three friends, Me (Pete Shergill), Craig Johnson and Harj Sadhra felt we wanted to help one of the charities that supports people with dementia in the UK. (All donations go to the Alzheimer's Society UK - we will be covering our own costs - including buying our modern classic cars).

About half of people with dementia suffer from pain. They are often unable to verbalise they have pain and, sadly, it goes unmanaged. Often, this is seen as a difficult behaviour to deal with. However, it is much easier to deal with pain than it is behaviours.

PainChek is a technology company that has developed the world's first Intelligent Pain Assessment tool that uses artificial intelligence via a mobile device to detect microexpressions in the face that indicate pain. Packaged with the assessment of the person's voice, movement, behaviour and activity, a pain score is created for the senior carer. Staff in a care setting can now measure pain without subjectivity and act on it. A fundamental human right to be pain-free can be met by using the PainChek App Medical Device.

PainChek has launched in the UK and we felt it would be a great story to take through the UK (England, Wales and Scotland). We will be stopping each day to conduct pain assessments on residents in care homes living with dementia along the route!

We want to raise awareness that this new technology is available in the UK whilst raising funds for a great charity, Alzheimer's Society.
