I have decided to take up a challenge this year for a charity that support "Disabled Children in Sport" and it's to cycle from Bradford to Hamm (Germany) and back in 8 days starting June 10th - 17th 2012.

We are planning to ride at an average of 20-24mph each day and the itenarary is:

Sunday 75+ miles, Monday 68+, Tuesday 78+, Wednesday 70+, Thursday (Rest day) ride with locals 30+, Friday 102+, Saturday 103+, and Sunday 75+ miles. Totalling approx 600+ Miles.

Being at times 18st+ (in the not too distant past) you will hopefully appreciate there is some hard work, dedication, reduction of alcohol, take-aways, concentration and above all training to enable my legs and mind to appreciate the effort that is going to be required to fulfill this challenge.

I started training and reducing the alcohol, food etc in November 2011 and am now on the brink of seeing the weigh-in scales under the 16st marker (still a little work to do) but I am definately now starting to see the benefits of my strict regime! :-)

Training on the bike with the guys on Saturdays and Sundays and gym through the week has been fun sometimes and sheer hell at others, riding to Burnsall in the snow and ice, riding UP and down the Dales (I am fast on the downhills) in the  pooring rain with frozen hands and feet, is not comfortable at all (especially at my weight) but my colleagues are a great bunch and at least we are able to take the "mick" (polite) out of each other and have a laugh along the lanes and when we get to the cafe stops, and watch each other thaw out and drip dry!

Now the weather is picking up (who said that) we are able to go further afield and get some serious miles in our legs, each ride in excess of 50 miles building up to a 100+ miles a day, being able to talk and interact in a concscious manner either during the ride or afterwards is becoming more achievable.

I plan to provide daily updates on our escapades and the ups and downs of each day to keep you all informed and amused, so watch this space!!!

So please dig deep and donate now.
