Story
Inspired by the brilliant recent efforts of my friend Erwan Ansquer, I'm going to do the 66 mile St Andrews Sportive on the 25 August. (I would have done the 88 mile course but I'm too old and stechie.) It'll be my first proper cycle race and I'm aiming to finish before sunset if I can. I will be spurred on by the promise of a Tunnocks Tea Cake waiting for me at the finish line and the hope that I'll be raising a few quid for the Jade McMahon Memorial Hospice in India.
Jade, who worked at the Positive Steps charity in Dundee, passed away suddenly on July 15 2012.
The charity has helped build a hospice in India for women and children suffering from HIV and AIDS and, to celebrate Jade's memory, it has decided to name it the Jade McMahon Memorial Hospice.
The official opening ceremony was held last October and Jade's family is now raising funds to help with the hospice's running costs.
Jade was an inspirational young woman who cared deeply about her work with homeless people and I'm proud to support the work which Positive Steps is continuing in her name.
