Ironman in Houston, Texas · 21 May 2011

Tushinde Children's Trust supports vulnerable children in Nairobi's informal settlements. These children have often lost one or both of their parents to HIV & are being brought up by kinship carers. In response, Tushinde runs the Family Support Programme; that nurtures and strengthens families.

Story

                             Done it!

Delighted to say I completed the Ironman in Houston - finishing around half way down the field which given my advanced age and the heat and humidity wasn't a bad result. A fantastic day, albeit a very hot one with over 2300 competitors starting the race.

I am equally delighted that with your support, we have raised just under £5000 (with Gift Aid) for Tushinde. This money will be used to build a new dormitory for the older girls so the 70 girls don't all have to sleep in the one room, 2 or 3 to a bed.

Lucy (my daughter who worked at the orphanage in Nairobi) and I are so grateful to you all - I shall be emailing my thanks separately.

It's nice to be able to relax, mentally as well as physically. I shan't be rushing to do another Ironman but I can see the addictive nature of this sport and suspect I'll have another crack at it to improve my time in a rather more forgiving climate.

Thank you again - I intend to provide updates on the building work on this page together with photo's so we can see the difference our support has made.
