Story

Challenge Henley Iron distance triathlon.

When?  Sunday 8 September 2013

Where?  Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

What?    2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike,  26.2 mile run

I took up Triathlon in 2008, just after my 50 birthday.  My first triathlon was the 2008 Novice event run by the Guernsey Triathlon Club.  Back then I had no interest in attempting to complete the ultimate triathlon challenge but over the years the idea that I could take this on grew in my mind, until I finally put in my entry for Challenge Henley in January 2013.

I decided only recently that I could not miss this opportunity to raise some money for a great cause and have decided to support Guernsey Chest and Heart.  The Guernsey Chest and Heart is a self funded registered charity, entirely reliant on donations.  They offer a free screening service consisting of an electrocardiogram, breathing tests, blood pressure, height, weight and cholesterol blood test.

Many Islanders lives have been improved by spotting potential problems, which can so often be offset by modest lifestyle changes.  My late father’s heart condition was identified many years ago at a routine screening, which allowed him to manage his health accordingly and go on to enjoy a full and healthy life.

We are so lucky to have this facility available to us. It is an absolutely fantastic service and attendance really is a no brainer.  I would be delighted if you choose to support me.  This could be with a donation through this page or simply by phoning Chest and Heart and booking an appointment.  Don’t put it off, you have absolutely nothing to lose, but everything to gain!
