Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
I was given the opportunity to participate in 2011 London Marathon and support Cancer Research UK – and here I am asking for your support to help me achieve a life long ambition and to support a worthwhile charity.
Why Cancer Research?
My mum (Sugie Davie), who was one of the greatest people I knew, suddenly died from cancer in Christmas 2007. I had a place for the London Marathon in 2006, but due to my mums’ illness – I wasn’t prepared for the challenge. I’m running this Marathon in memory of my mum – to demonstrate the courage, dedication and commitment she had towards her family and everyone she touched.
Why the London Marathon?
As mentioned – it’s a lifetime goal and a personal challenge I’ve always wanted to achieve. Additionally – I need to shed a few pounds and to ensure I can keep up with my little girl as she grows up!
Now it’s over to you - Please dig deep and make a donation for a very worthwhile cause.
Thank you.
Peter
A little more about Cancer Research UK – ‘Together we will beat cancer’
We are the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives with our groundbreaking work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. People’s chances of surviving cancer have doubled in the last 40 years, and we’ve been at the heart of that progress.
But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point. Our vital work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people survive.
A little more about my mum – Dr Sugie Davie
My mum was a GP for over 30yrs and dedicated her life to the NHS. She worked tirelessely helping people during her time with the NHS and was an active member of the local community and church. 6mths before her retirement, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (Cancer of the Bone Marrow) and under went stem cell autograf. Sadly, she passed away on 22nd December – despite fighting through the stem cell and chemo treatment.
My mum was my best friend and I miss her dearly. She never had a chance of meeting my little girl, but I know she's watching over us from above.
