A few weeks ago I saw that Cheltenham were hosting a bike race and being a lover of mountain biking I thought I would sign up and give it a try. A week later I was given some terrible news. My mum was diagnosed with Bicuspid Aortic Valve and will need to under go major heart surgery to try and correct it.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve is a condition where 2 of the aortic valve leaflets fuse together during development to for a bicuspid valve instead of a tricuspid valve. To rub salt into the already gaping wound I find that it is hereditery so there is a chance that I could also have it, along with my brother and sister and their children. It was then that I decided to take this bike race seriously. It is no longer something to do just for fun, but now something I MUST do to help raise money and awareness.

The British Heart Foundation are an amazing charity who go above and beyond to help those who need it. I feel I must help raise money for this charity because one day it could be me who needs their help.
