It will affect me for the rest of my life. This experience has brought home to me how fragile life is and how we take things for granted. Being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease can have a massive impact on the lives of an individual and their families, and can results in lengthy dialysis sessions and the need for a transplant. There are many forms of the condition, multiple treatments available however there is no cure. For over 50 years Kidney Wales has been a pillar of support to these families living with the daily struggles of this life changing condition. From refurbishing units, funding health care staff, providing financial support and a patient advocacy service, organising activities & events for families and campaigning for the change of law on organ donation in Wales patients remain at the heart of everything that we do.
