Story
I am hoping to raise funds to support The Rainy Day Trust during this unprecedented threat to our future.
As teenager (just!) in August 1972 I was one of 19,000 packed into Eastville Stadium to witness Bristol Rovers’ first (and only) cup win when they defeated hot favourites Sheffield United (and their star player Tony Currie, 7-6 on penalties. I am re-enacting the key highlights of the match in my garden in full Rovers kit against Canine United led by captain Maisy (enthusiastic and busy midfield dynamo), supported by Sky ( belligerent Bouvier de Flandres bruiser with high energy levels in short bursts but a 30 second attention span) and Mitzi ( small, fast with a terrier attitude who could prove a handful as long as no squirrels are around in which case there will be an immediate change of focus!.
The match will be refereed by my wife which virtually ensures a win for Canine United - but I have impressed on her that we must stick to the re-enactment for authenticity . I will be posting pictures of the highlights live as they happen on Facebook including the magnificent penalty save that won the cup.
If you feel that you can support me in raising some badly needed funds for our charity it would be greatly appreciated and will help us to continue to support those from our Industry in need long after this current crisis is behind us.
Thank you - and stay safe.
