Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Fundraising at Wakefield Hospice is currently difficult because of Covid-19 – the retail shops are shut and many events have had to be cancelled. As a past volunteer for the hospice I would like to raise some much-needed money and I intend to do a sponsored 76-mile bike ride (I’m now 76 years old) on Thursday June 18th (weather and virus permitting).
My journey will start in Notton, where I live, and take in Brierley, Hooton Pagnell, Campsall, Wentbridge, Pontefract, Castleford, Stanley, Wrenthorpe, Ossett, Dewsbury, Horbury Bridge, Grange Moor, Shelley, Ingbirchworth, Silkstone Common, Worsborough, Stairfoot, and Royston. Some of the route will be on canal banks, the Trans-Pennine Trail, and old railway lines. There are two serious (for me!) hill-climbs on the route, and the highest point will be Birds Edge on the A629.
I’m really pleased to be supported by my grandsons, Alex (11) and Ben (9), who will each cycle 38 miles around their home near Oxford. I have only recently got back to fitness after a knee replacement, so I am expecting my ride to be fairly hard. My usual journeys are around 25 miles only, so I guess that to get round in 7 hours will be the best I can expect, fuelled of course by bananas and my wife’s currant teacakes. I’m hoping to raise at least £760.
