Trip to Rwanda · 13 October 2017

Cricket Without Boundaries is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. Crucially, CWB also uses cricket as a tool in the fight against AIDS. CWB’s training sessions have at their heart discussion about the disease in terms of prevention, treatment and equality of treatment for those with and without the disease.

On the 13th of October about ten of us are flying out to Rwanda. Some of the team will be teaching local coaches how to coach cricket. The rest of us will be going out to communities and working with the kids. The CWB model is to teach about HIV and aids through cricket. This year there will be research into the impact this has. Rwanda is a poor country that has been through it's hard times, but from what I have been told they have an incredible sense of community. The last Saturday of every month everyone goes out and cleans the streets and tends to the local gardens, which means the whole place stays pretty tidy.

We have been asked to fundraise £975 for the trip. I don't like to ask people to pay for me to go abroad so I am going to fund that myself, but it would be really nice to be able to fundraise the same again. Someone else in the group has already fundraised around £6,000! The money will go towards equipment and funding projects within the community
