Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi
After successfully completing Deloitte ride across Britain last September I've decided it's only right to cycle this time across Britain in an event called " Chase the Sun". A distance of 205 miles setting off at sunrise from Tynemouth east coastline and arriving at sunset on the Scottish coastline near Prestwick on June 22nd this year.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. A rare life threatening disease which affects the heart and lungs and depending on the severity of the condition can affect your daily lifestyle but unfortunately as yet there is no cure for this cruel disease. My condition was quite severe and when I was first diagnosed my family were told I'd probably not survive.Having been someone that had always been fit i was reduced to having to rest even whilst climbing stairs just to get my breath back. I struggled to do basic everyday tasks that most people take for granted...it was probably the worst year of my life.
February 2016 I had successful major surgery to remove blood clots from my lungs and although I still have pulmonary hypertension my symptoms have vastly improved and in September 2016 I was able to return to work.Pulmonary Hypertension is a rare and cruel disease that effects people of all ages. There are a handful of hospitals around the country dedicated to treating PH patients and Papworth hospital in Cambridge is the only hospital in the UK that offers surgery for PH patients.Sometimes surgery for pulmonary hypertension is not always possible so I consider myself very lucky to be back on my feet and getting back to some sort of fitness again, however unfortunately there are people that really suffer with this condition all their lives.
I can't thankyou all enough for your generous donations you made for my challenge last year helping me raise nearly £1500 for PHA and once again I'd be so grateful for any donations for my latest challenge.
The PHA ( Pulmonary Hypertension Association ) is a small charity dedicated to finding an eventual cure for PH.They were there for me during the hard times, both when I was in and out of hospital because there were many times i was just an emotional wreck not being able to do anything and having to rely on family to do things for me was very hard. This challenge is not just a way of raising awareness and raising money for PHA but hopefully to show and maybe inspire people who suffer from Pulmonary Hypertension that anything is possible. Thanks for reading my story and any donations would be greatly appreciated from this wonderful charity.
