Three Peaks · 25 April 2022

We are a parent led group (we are 2 mums with children of our own with life limiting diseases) created for parent/carers living with a child with special educational needs and disabilities based in the North East of England. We have set up a local community group where we offer weekly support groups, holiday play groups, parties and a Facebook group for communications, sharing information and product finds and hacks. Giving families a safe place to discuss their child, ask questions and enable families living outside of our local area an opportunity to still connect with other families in similar situations, but primarily to reduce the loneliness and isolation SEND parent carers feel in their journey. During the school holidays we host play and craft days for our families, to give them somewhere safe and accessible to go and explore the world around them and hopefully enable some form of socialisation with other families in the same situation and allow siblings to interact with other siblings – again going through the same journey. We host parties throughout the year, simply because children like ours don’t get invited to birthday parties or celebrations, so we are determined to throw parties in their honour and give them an experience every child should have. We arrange accessible days out, activities which would normally be socially difficult and create one-off memorable money can't buy trips.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. 24 miles, three peaks, one day! We’re very excited to announce our first ever Charity Challenge – The Yorkshire Three Peaks! On Tuesday 26 April a team of BGLi colleagues will visit the stunning Yorkshire Dales to tackle the Three Peaks, covering a whopping 24 miles! The team’s aim will be to summit Pen–y–ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) in less than 12 hours. Colleagues taking part from home are also fundraising to support the Special Lioness, a Sunderland-based charity that supports families with children who have life-limiting conditions. The charity relies on community fundraising to provide vital services, with our contribution providing a much needed boost.

This is by no means an easy challenge, the team is committed to completing the trek in just 12 hours and raising vital funds for our chosen charities. Thank you in advance for helping me raise much needed funds for this incredible charity.
