Well as a lot of you know, much to my surprise, I made it. It was very hard work, not just the altitude but also the cold. Despite wearing 8 layers of clothes I have never been so cold. My water froze, hands and feet were like blocks of ice. At the top I was there for the sunrise, having been walking up in the dark from midnight. Amazing sight of the ice fileds and glaciers, having been in the semi tropical rain forest 7 days earlier. Quite a contrast. During our trek up we had camped most nights with snow and ice on the tents, but then you all know about snow and ice here in the UK as it was pretty cold when I returned.

Thanks you all so much for your support and messages of encouragement. Without them I think I may have turned back. It was great to receive text mesages near the summit. Despite it being very stimulating and certainly challenging I will not be doing it again, or certainly not for a few years!!
