Peter has severe Autism which means he requires around the clock 1 to 1 support. Due to the nature of Peter’s Autism he finds it difficult to access main stream activities and can be easily overwhelmed. When Peter gets over whelmed it has profound and challenging consequences which are not only distressing for Peter but also for his family and friends. Peter is non-verbal so can’t tell you verbally when he’s getting frustrated so he sadly sometimes harms himself.
Exercise can somewhat support Peter when he gets overwhelmed and this is the main reason for Peter taking up running. But as he has progressed through his training Peter and his family thought it would be a great opportunity to raise awareness of this level of autism and what positive things can be done and to also raise funds for Peter’s ‘Sarrie’s Skills Club’ which he enjoys attending each and every Monday evening. Peter has already inspired so many people to take up running and has seen his Peloton increase from the start with him and his side kick to a strong cohort of 15 people and counting. For Peter to train for this there has been so much work to do support his sensory needs and this huge achievement cannot be underestimated in the slightest.
