On the 9th April 2016, a fabulous team of people from PB Fitness Academy, in Hindley near Wigan, will be taking part in Born Survivor - the ultimate military obstacle course. We will be led by Peter Beyer, owner of the Gym. Our team name is, "Pete's Purple Warriors". As a team, we are raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action. One of our team members, Vicki Stevenson-Hornby, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who works with patients and families affected by pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK. Anyone who receives a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer has a 4% chance of surviving for 5 years. These appallingly low survival rates have remained unchanged in over 40 years! Surgery remains the only possibility for cure but sadly, very few people are diagnosed early enough for surgery, meaning that the average survival for a patient at the time they receive a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is 4 to 6 months. Despite this, pancreatic cancer receives only 1% of cancer research funding.
As a charity, Pancreatic Cancer Action work tirelessly in an attempt to achieve earlier diagnosis for patients with pancreatic cancer and to improve the quality of life for anyone affected by pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic Cancer Action fund clinical research, provide medical education and work to improve public awareness, all with the aim of achieving earlier diagnosis which can, in turn, lead to improved survival rates.
Together, we can and will make the much needed difference.
