Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I attended the Marie Curie Brain Game in earlier this year. It was a great evening and after 2 or 3 glasses of wine, I was persuaded to join a group of interpid women and George Clooney on a trek to to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Alas George has been forced to drop out due to other commitments, or maybe it was just a cunning ploy to get me to sign up!There are few people out there who haven't been touched by cancer. I lost a close friend to cancer, she was only 32 years of age when she died, and had been ill for a long time. Marie Curie nurses supported her and her family through these difficult times. Their support enabled her to stay at home and be close to those who loved her most.
I am honoured to be taking part in this challenge to raise money for the Marie Curie Hospice, . Monies raised will enable the charity to continue providing care and quality of life for people with cancer and other illnesses and support for their families, completely free. Last year's challenge raised a phenomenal £65,000!
We have been warned that the Jordan Desert Challenge won't be a holiday. We will be walking for 6-8 hours a day in temperatures of up to 35C, covering distances of 16-20km per day over a 4 day period and camping in the desert! After our comfortable lives in the , we will have to endure very basic of toilet facilities, no hairdriers and a thimble full of water each day to wash in! Sounds a bit like without Springsteen!
My trip partner, Trish, came over from the States and we managed to fit in some good walks including a 20 mile long distance trek on the North Yorkshire Moors. Despite a nasty blister, we made it to the finishing line (The Magpie Cafe, Whitby) and we certainly earned our supper that night.
A big thank you to friends and associates who have already supported my fundraising. We still have £500 to raise, but with your support that should be achievable. So to any friends and family who haven't donated (we know where you live) please back this brilliant and hardworking charify, and give generously!
