We raise money to help treat & beat heart and lung disease

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  The Royal Brompton and Harefield Charitable Trust has set up a Team Macy code so the money we raise goes directly towards funding genetic research.  Together like Macy, we will fight with every heartbeat to prevent another family from the total devastation of losing a child.

MY STORY

I've known Helen forever   She is one of my oldest and dearest friends. We've been on many journeys together , but nothing could of prepared me for this one.

It started with a text message from Helen telling me Macy was being blue lighted to the Royal  Brompton hospital in London. My blood ran cold. Helen had been saying for a while that something wasn't right with Macy !

I,like so many, were in constant contact with Helen either via text the occasional phone call and later through Facebook.

One day I told Helen I was coming up. I didn't ask as I knew she'd say no. Shutting the world out was her coping strategy.  I text her when I was outside the doors of the ward. Shortly after I saw a person walk towards me through the closed doors. The doors to Helens world. That person walking towards me was Helen , but not her. I hardly recognised her, it tore me apart but I remained strong for her.

We went for a walk and she showed me where she stayed ( another shock).

We talked for ages , I kept the conversation light and we managed a few laughs.

Helen led me back up to the ward and pushed open the doors and led me to Macy's cot. I saw through the countless tubes and blocked out the beeps and saw a beautiful, strong little baby girl. I talked to her and touched her soft head and brushed her beautiful cheeks and will every ounce of strength willed her well.

Unfortunately it was not meant to be and in the 20th December 2012 Macy passed away. She was 6 weeks and one day old.

I am running this 10k in honour of Macy and with love for Helen and her amazing family.

I hope to raise as much as I can to help fund research into CHD. And my doing so hoping to help another family avoid a tragic loss

Go team Macy !!!!
