Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Hopefully you saw a recent flyer saying Jon & I were going to take part in an 85 mile charity fundraising bike ride around Pitlochry in Scotland
(Etape Caledonia).
The aim is to raise funds for a community defibrillator for those living on the roads around Salway Evangelical Church at the top of Forest Approach. To that end, we are asking Church attenders and local residents to consider if they could make a one off gift.
Unfortunately setting up the Church with Just Giving took longer than I had anticipated so the ride came first (19th September) but the just giving account is now active and we are hoping to raise £3,000 which should cover all the necessary costs including a training evening.
The ride started around 7.30am in Pitlochry and fortunately, whilst the forecast hadn't been good for the whole country, the rain had just about cleared the town by the start and stayed dry for the whole ride. Jon sacrificed his chance of a personal best in order to chaperone me round the course and we finished the course in a little under 6 hours.
We have posted some pictures of the ride and the course in the gallery. Thank you for reading this and hopefully we will be able to collect sufficient funds to make a local defibrillator a reality. We hope to meet many of you for the training event as that will hopefully give confidence to use the equipment if ever required. The equipment is fairly automatic but if we are too anxious to use it then it is of limited value. A friend wryly observed that it was a great idea to fund raise for this ...... but hoped that it would never need to be used!
If surplus funds are raised, these will be kept in a restricted fund and used for other community facing activities.
