Ultra-Trail Snowdonia Marathon in support of Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund · 13 May 2023

Two powerful earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria on the same day, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring thousands more. Your donation to this Relief Fund will provide emergency relief and fuel long-term recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria.

Story

On 13th May 2023, we will be participating in the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia 55km/34miles (110kms with a combined 110 years between us!), with an elevation gain of 3,300 metres (more than a third of Everest). We’ll be climbing Snowdon twice, as well as two other smaller peaks, and are hoping to be well within the cut-off time of 14 hours! We will be running in support of Turkey and Syria and all those lives lost.

The devastation as a result of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has been nothing short of heartbreaking to witness. As search and rescue efforts conclude, thousands of survivors are in urgent need of help and we want to support.

We're personally calling on our friends, families, colleagues, and further networks to support where you can. Your donations will go directly to the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Fund and will be matched £1:£1 by Flutter Entertainment as part of their commitment to match up to £100,000 to Global Giving's emergency fund.

Thank you in advance for your donations.

CHALLENGE: The two earthquakes measured 7.8M and 7.5M in strength and are among the strongest to hit Turkey since 1999 and 1939. Thousands of people, including many refugees, are in need of shelter, food, and water in southern Turkey and northern Syria. Your donation to this fund will help meet those needs, as well as power the efforts of local nonprofits that can respond to the overlooked community needs and lead long-term recovery efforts.

SOLUTION: All donations to this fund will support Turkey (officially known as the Republic of Turkiye) and Syria earthquake relief and recovery efforts. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs evolve, we will prioritize longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted areas.
