THE STORM
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass....It's about learning to RUN in the RAIN.
My personal storm came to the fore in May 2021, 7 years after being diagnosed with the IgG4 autoimmune disease, when a serious flare up saw my pancreas fail and the onset of Type 1 Diabetes because of it. Unknown at the time, my Blood Sugar levels rose to dangerously high levels before an emergency Doctor had the presence of mind to admit me straight away to hospital, close to entering a Diabetic coma.
Since then there have been many a dark stormy day, on top of my pancreas, my Kidneys, Liver, and Bile ducts are now comprised by the disease and my daily routine now consists of medicating to keep the disease in check, taking part in a clinical trial of a drug to keep things stable, and insulin injections to keep my Blood Sugar levels stable.
My Storm will not pass, but I am learning how to run in the rain.
I am now back running after learning how to control the blood sugars during a run, and pacing events again, whilst also trying to help others by fundraising for two great charities, @asthmaandlunguk and @diabetesuk for those who are not able to do what I can.
I will be taking part in the @londonmarathon and @venicemarathon_official this October as well as a number of half marathons including the @officialbighalf, pacing the @great_run #greatnorthrun and @royalparkshalf and numerous 10kms.
In August I will be doing a solo challenge to run the London Monoploy Board. Can you help me help others by sponsoring me in my aims to help others, whilst keeping my storm at bay? Anything you can spare in these times would be very much appreciated and go a very long way to help
There will be a day when I can no longer do what I can do, today is not that day.
Thank you for your support.
1 in 5 of us will have a lung condition during our lifetime. There's a new diagnosis every minute. I'm running The London Marathon for Asthma + Lung UK. They're the only UK charity that fights for everyone's right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs. Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UKs nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!
