Bupa Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·
My 15 year old son Rory went missing from a beach in Sufolk in August 2003. The RNLI searched for him over several days and eventually recovered his body a week later.
I had hoped to take on a challenge in 2013 to mark the 10th aniversary of his death and raise some money for the RNLI. Unfortunately I haved suffered from a number of health issues in recent years this prevented me from going ahead. However in January this year, I decided that I needed to make some radical life changes and that I would seek not one but two challenges in 2014, the Great North Run and the Great East Swim.
I completed the swim in June and my supporters donated over £400. The second part of the challenge has proved more difficult. All was going well till I snapped my bicepts tendon a couple of weeks ago at the Cadet Sailing World Championships. After much thought and advice I have decided to run. It wont be fast and it will be painful but the RNLI are worth a couple of hours of discomfort.
