My wonderful mummy Bernie Wood was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the summer of 2022, weeks after being given the 5 year all-clear following an earlier cancer recovery.  The diagnosis was devastating for my whole family,  and has had a huge impact on day to day life and leisure for us all, but especially for her.  Throughout it all she's remained calm,  cheerful and stoical even when struggling most with her emotions and the ever-present symptomatic pain. She's incredible. 

Macmillan have been brilliant in offering support,  and simply their work in raising awareness has made talking about the diagnosis so much easier.  I haven't yet had to use their family and friends helpline phone number,  but it's often been helpful just to know it exists.  

So to support Macmillan's vital work and in honour of my mother who can no longer walk nearly so far as she'd like I'm walking the Lake District Mighty Hike of 24.6 miles over hilly terrain.
