One Man, One Gear, One Cause

I'm Phil Meenan for those that don't know me and welcome to my page. I am a 48 year old horror genre collector, tattoo enthusiast and a true monster kid at heart.. Just your average cyclist who loves to ride. Basically do it all year round. No frills. No fancy bike. Only one general purpose. RIDE! I am embarking on a 2,100 mile solo journey on my single gear bicycle at the end of March that will take me from Chicago (where I live) to Hollywood, California.  I am looking to raise $21,000 which matches the 2,100 miles I will be riding! 

I had always dreamed of doing some type of BIG ride and the opportunity and time have finally presented themselves.  When I told my friends and family about doing this, not only were they supportive but they planted the seed that I could do something more than just ride for myself.  This is how the opportunity to give back came to fruition.  This ride is bigger than me and unfortunately cancer is bigger than all of us.  I don't know one person that has not been affected by the detection or loss of someone they loved that had the diagnosis of cancer.

So, to be upfront and honest, I am doing this for myself, as crazy and epic as it will be, but I also am using these 16 days (which is another crazy goal) to raise awareness and dollars to continue the fight to find the cures to keep our loved ones around for a good long time to come.                      

I can't promise that this journey will be exciting like some. But I'll post as many updates, fun pics, stories and even the struggles that'll be meeting me along the way. But I truly hope that many of you will accompany me on this trek. 

And to sum it all up. What am I expecting to be getting out of all of this? Hmmmmm... A sore body, the sheer satisfaction of accomplishing what I set out to do. And most importantly, that I made at least a small contribution to this wonderful cause. If there was ever a time that your commitment was needed, now is that time! It may be your donation that pushes us past a major turning point in discovering and developing cures. Believe me. Any little bit helps.
