Story

About

Phil was a well loved character in the village of Southery who was taken from us all tragically in 2015. The East Anglia Air Ambulance done their part and his family and friends would like to give something back.

On Sunday 27th August 2017, an entourage of motorcycle riders will set off from the Old White Bell public house, Southery, Norfolk, riding in memory of Phil across country to the coastal village of Blakeney where he and his partner Jane would often travel on his motorbike and share in the fresh shell fish available.

As in 2016, setting off from the Old White Bell at 1.00pm, those without motors on their bikes will be cycling/horse riding/pony & trapping a suitable route around the fens on local tracks and roads to Southery, incorporating a few local watering holes upon the way.

Before all this shenanigans kicks off though Phil's Ride, in association with MAMILTON (Middle Aged Men In Lycra Tour Of Norfolk) will be undertaking the  challenge of a 189mile circumference of Norfolk.  This trek will start on Tuesday evening 22nd August and over the next 4 days, Spike Dewing, Ray Mcallister, Katie Taggart, James Dewing and Chris Jones will undertake the arduous trip.  (They're also planning to take part in the warm down trip on Sunday 27th too!)

The Old White Bell will be hosting a fun day for the supporters and young children unable to take part during the day serving sandwiches, cakes, tea & coffee as well as a full range of bar drinks. The superb raffle last year will be repeated with tickets on sale on the day.

The day doesn't end there as we've live music at the Old White Bell from 5pm until close provided by Katy-May, Holly-Jean, Lavender Drive, Chris Fox, Jessica Davis, Sophie Frear & Man Overboard, along with a BBQ & Hog Roast.

Target

We've rather cheekily set the target this year to 1p more than last year.  Phil's Ride 2016 was such an amazing day (two days if you count Melvyn and Jane's swimming in the Old White Bell car park on the Sunday) that we're a firm believers this annual event could go from strength to strength.  When we originally conceived the idea back in June 2016, we had no concept of the potential that could be raised, but now there's a track record and a precedent...  :-)

Taking Part

We'd like as many bikes, both motor and pedal, to take part in the day, so why not come along to The Old While Bell, Southery, PE380PA at noon on Sunday 27th August 2017 and join in.
