Story

As some of you already know, on 19 January an avalanche in Glencoe killed four walkers, one of whom was my very dear friend Rachel Majumdar. Her partner, Tom, and two friends, Una and Chris, were also killed.

Rachel was simply the most extraordinarily talented person I've ever known. She had only recently qualified as a medical doctor and was in the middle of her training with a very promising career ahead of her. She was also an accomplished athlete, musician, artist and academic. Above all, however, she was a wonderful person - warm, caring and compassionate, and truly a delight to be around.

Her death, and that of her companions, was a devastating loss to everyone who knew her. It was also a stark reminder of the dangerous, and sometimes distressing, work by the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team who recovered the casualties.

As a token of gratitude to them, on 24 March I will be running the Forest of Dean Half Marathon in Rachel's memory to raise funds that will support the GMRT for the future. This was one of Rachel's favourite races, and one in which she herself had competed with her family on several occasions.

It would mean a lot to me if you could help me to raise some money in recognition of the GMRT's service and dedication by sponsoring me in this event.

Thank you.
